Greater Boise Auditorium District

The Greater Boise Auditorium District was created by an act of the Idaho Legislature in 1959 to build, operate, maintain, market and manage public auditoriums, exhibit halls, convention centers, sports arenas, and other similar facilities. The purpose of the District is to serve the public need and promote economic growth. To view the full Idaho Statute, click here.

In 1982 The District founded the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau, a non-profit organization, for the purpose of enhancing the City of Boise’s economy through the marketing, promotion and selling of the city and region as a site for conventions, corporate meetings, trade shows, pleasure travel, cultural, sports and special events.

In 1990 the Greater Boise Auditorium District finished construction of the Boise Centre on the Grove, the District’s first convention facility, known today as the Boise Centre. Plans are in the works for a new convention facility, with capacity large enough to accommodate conventions and exhibits more than twice the size of those currently utilizing the Boise Centre site.

Because of continued growth and national recognition, the Boise area has already become a viable destination for larger events. According to research conducted by Conventions, Sports & Leisure International, Boise could have been the beneficiary of large national, regional and state association events, public shows and other corporate and local uses as early as 2002, had a suitable venue been available.
